Blur

What the board has decided about this committee or office, and the reports it filed, most recent first. Generated from the published minutes.

These categorised views are best effort. They are read from the published minutes by a program, and what it can attribute to a committee depends on how each resolution happens to be worded — so a page may be incomplete, and nothing here overrides the minutes themselves. The raw minutes are the source of truth.

Please note. The board approves the minutes of a meeting at the meeting after it, and they are published then - so the most recent meeting is not usually here. ASF Members can read the draft in the board's own repository until it is.

2017-02-27 — in the Incubator's report

Blur is a search platform capable of searching massive amounts of data
in a cloud computing environment.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

1. Greater community involvement.
2. Produce releases.
3.

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware
of?

Lack of community involvement has brought the topic of retirement to the
blur-dev list.

We feel that the board should be aware of a potential retirement to the
project.

We have two main efforts going on over the past quarter: 1) we've made
numerous improvements to stabilize the original platform at really
large scale. 2) we've been refining the ideas around the new major
feature - which will introduce a new abstraction in distributed search
- mentioned in our previous report.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

  1. Official IP sign off
    - Near Infinity signed CCLA and Blur Software Grant in July of 2012
    - All committers have submitted ICLA's in July/August of 2012
    - So I believe that an official vote is all that is needed.
  2. First Apache release which is dependent on #1
    - The biggest reason this has been delayed is due to several major code
refactors to make use of Blur faster and easier
  3. Community growth, Blur needs to grow beyond the initial set of committors.

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware of?

Key Activities:

  - Website has been migrated to Apache CMS and is online at

  - Apache Rat has been integrated into the build process
    - Many of issues that Apache Rat identified have been corrected

  - A major rework of the code base is in progress with a goal of releasing
0.2 as the first release of Apache Blur
    - During the rework of the code the community has been active in
      discussions and contributing code
    - Jan 2013 is a realistic timeline for a release

  - The most significant development achievement over the past month has
been the update to Lucene 4.0
NOTE: The version change caused several thousand compile errors and many
were fixed by community contributions. With the help of community
developers the update only took a couple of weeks before tests were
passing and the application was working again.
