These categorised views are best effort. They are read from the published minutes by a program, and what it can attribute to a committee depends on how each resolution happens to be worded — so a page may be incomplete, and nothing here overrides the minutes themselves. The raw minutes are the source of truth.

Please note. The board approves the minutes of a meeting at the meeting after it, and they are published then - so the most recent meeting is not usually here. ASF Members can read the draft in the board's own repository until it is.

2015-01-21 — in the Incubator's report

NPanday allows projects using the .NET framework to be built with Apache
Maven.

NPanday has been incubating since 2010-08-13.

Shepherd/Mentor notes:

P. Taylor Goetz (ptgoetz):

NPanday has missed the last two reports (last report August 2014). One
of two mentors are engaged and encouraging the podling to make a final
release before retiring (last release was on 2011-05-17). However, there
is little PPMC/Committer involvement with only 2 PPMC members showing
involvement on the dev@ list in the past year. Also confirmed that a
report reminder email was received by the dev@ list for each of the last
missed reporting periods as well at the current period.

It's clear that mentors past and present have attempted to help the
NPanday project grow to a viable size -- at least enough to approve a
release, new Committer/PPMC Member, or even decide to retire -- without
  success.

The main warning signs appear to be:

  * Inability to reach community consensus (barely 2 acive Committer/PPMC
Members, making 3 +1s for any vote very difficult)
  * Inability to perform releases
  * Inability to grow the community to a viable size

The issues listed above do not indicate a lack of mentor involvement,
but rather a community in decline.

2014-08-20 — in the Incubator's report

NPanday allows projects using the .NET framework to be built with Apache
Maven.

NPanday has been incubating since 2010-08-13.

Since the last report in July:
- the build issues on the Windows Jenkins slaves were resolved
- further JIRA issues have been cleaned up to prepare for the release
- Konstantin Boudnik was formally added as a mentor for the project

While some progress was made towards getting the release out, there is
still more work to do as time allows.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

1. Ship the changes on trunk as a release and make it easier for new
users to get up to speed when interested in the project
2. Get a critical mass of committers/PPMC members that can respond to
contributors, apply patches, nominate committers, and vote on releases
3. Provide guidance on how to get involved in contributing

The incubator is already aware of the low level of activity, that many of
the PPMC are now disengaged. There continues to be interest in a new
release from users, and new interest from some in making contributions that
continue to be followed up.

Date of last release:

2011-05-16

The last committer was added on 2011-04-19. There have not been any PPMC
additions since inception.

2014-07-16 — in the Incubator's report

NPanday allows projects using the .NET framework to be built with Apache
Maven.

NPanday has been incubating since 2010-08-13.

Since the last report in April, a few obstacles have been removed:
- the status page was updated with the current podling state and correct
mentors
- svnpubsub was enabled so the website can be updated again
- a number of JIRA issues have been cleaned up to prepare for the release

Not blocking, but outstanding things to do:
- resolve issues with Jenkins builds with infrastructure
- finish closing out JIRA issues that have been partially finished
for release
- apply suitable patches that have been overlooked in the past and try
to reconnect with contributors

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

1. Ship the changes on trunk as a release and make it easier for new
users to get up to speed when interested in the project
2. Get a critical mass of committers/PPMC members that can respond to
contributors, apply patches, nominate committers, and vote on releases
3. Provide guidance on how to get involved in contributing

The incubator is already aware of the low level of activity, that many of
the PPMC are now disengaged and lack of mentors for the project. Konstantin
Boudnik has put his hand up to help out and that discussion is in progress.

There continues to be interest in a new release from users, and new
interest from some in making contributions that continue to be followed up.

2014-04-16 — in the Incubator's report

NPanday allows projects using the .NET framework to be built with Apache
Maven.

NPanday has been incubating since 2010-08-13.

In previous reports, we indicated that there was a regression that blocked
releasing the next version. This has now been resolved, and the only thing
that stands in the way is sufficient cycles to push it out. There have been
a small number of users (not yet committers) who've stepped forward to help
test when that happens, which might help build some much needed momentum.
However, as before, it's still a concern whether sufficient release votes
could be found as many of the existing PPMC are inactive. The last release
was made on 16 May 2011.

The steps that have been identified are:

- apply patches that have been contributed recently
- convert the website to svnpubsub so updated documentation can be published
- perform the release steps

The NPanday automated builds have been impacted by changes to the Windows
build infrastructure again, but this is probably something that needs to be
worked around on our end.

2013-12-18 — in the Incubator's report

NPanday allows projects using the .NET framework to be built with Apache
Maven.

NPanday has been incubating since 2010-08-13.

The podling continues to have a low amount of activity. However, there are
still committers involved that wish to see it succeed. A recent prod from
the Incubator PMC has reignited some interest, including from new
contributors and existing users of the project.

Unfortunately, we have gradually lost mentors, and the last one resigned in
November. Thankfully, Raphael Bircher has volunteered to step in. There are
ASF members on the project, however we could still use other independent
mentors willing to keep an eye on the project and keep prodding.

In the current state, we might find it difficult to get enough votes
together for a release.

We have requested that JIRA notifications be sent to the dev@ list instead
of commits@, so we can keep as much discussion in one place as possible.

With the recent activity, we have started to identify a list of things that
need to be done to get activity moving again, and the next release out. This
needs to be fleshed out, including details of who is willing to contribute
to them.

The last release was made on 16 May 2011.

Shepherd notes:

  Justin Mclean (jmclean):

Last report was July 2013. At noted in the current report there are some
issues to overcome for the project to move forward.

In the last month there been some increased activity on the mailing
lists (thanks to the last shepherd) but as yet no fixes or patches have
been submitted. The project currently has only one mentor (just
appointed) and the PPMC seems to have gone missing.

NPanday has been incubating since 2010-08-13.

Shepherd notes:

acabrera: Not a lot of activity. Most of the mail is comes from the Jenkins
server. :) Still, the lone developer seems to be reasonably active. I
think it's telling that there is no report filed.

2013-05-15 — in the Incubator's report

NPanday allows projects using the .NET framework to be built with Apache Maven.

NPanday has been incubating since 2010-08-13.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

1. work out a concrete plan towards graduation ASAP
2. encourage newer contributors to do so on a continuing basis
3. reach out to other projects using .NET that might be interested
   in working with NPanday

Some new attention has sparked recently around getting support for
Mono back up to par, which might help resolve some of the regressions
that are in the way of a release. Hopefully some of the newer
contributors will be able to continue helping out in that regard.

Users have drawn attention to the fact that the home page doesn't list
any recent activity. Some effort needs to go into making it clearer of
the current status and how to contribute.

The existing committers continue to be busy with other projects, but
are still interested in seeing the project succeed and looking for new
volunteers.

We are still short on mentors, and would appreciate any volunteers.

We have had some recent patch submissions again and will encourage those
actively using the project to contribute on a regular basis. We haven't
added a new committer since 20 April 2011, so expect to have a low barrier
to any new committers.

The last release was on 16 May 2011. It is clear that this is impacting the
ability of the project to attract and retain new blood. Unfortunately,
there remain some blockers to releasing the current trunk. We need to push
forward with this ASAP.

2012-11-21 — in the Incubator's report

NPanday allows projects using the .NET framework to be built with Apache Maven.
NPanday has been incubating since August 2010.

NPanday's lull in activity has continued with the committers busy elsewhere.
There is still interest in pulling together a release, which hopefully will
spur further activity, but little progress has been made since the last report.

The project was mildly impacted by instability in the Windows instance of
Jenkins on two recent occasions, but that appears to be sorted out.

As we reported 2 months ago, we continue to see occasional questions from users,
and occasional patch submissions, but haven't added a new committer since
20 April 2011.

The last release was on 16 May 2011.

We are still short on mentors, and would appreciate any volunteers!

The top priorities towards graduation are:

  - work out a concrete plan towards graduation in the next quarter

NPanday has been incubating since August 2010.

NPanday has had a lull of activity for several months as all the committers
have had other things occupying their time.

There are still clear goals for what to do next, when someone has cycles to
pursue them: produce a release of the most recent changes, and to better
promote the project among the .NET and Maven communities.

We continue to see occasional questions from users, and occasional patch
submissions, but haven't added a new committer since 20 April 2011.

Matt Franklin (mfranklin)
I am concerned about the level of engagement of the community. The vast
majority of mail traffic has been from automated build failures and even
a question from a potential user saw no response from the committers/PPMC.
IMHO, there needs to be a significant increase in engagement over time
before the project would be ready to graduate.

NPanday allows projects using the .NET framework to be built with Apache Maven.
NPanday has been incubating since August 2010.

NPanday had a lull of activity over the last few months as all the committers
had other things occupying their time. This has picked up again over the last
couple of weeks, with the renewed push for another release. There is still a
need to focus on a graduation plan, and to better promote the project among
the .NET and Maven communities as a result.

As reported last time, we continue to see small growth in users, and
occasional patch submissions, but haven't added a new committer in a while.

Discussion has been low over the holiday period, but steady work has been
put into knocking issues marked for the next releases. There are very few
left, and a good number of fixes complete, so a release should come quite
shortly. This would be a good opportunity to focus on a graduation plan,
and to better promote the project among the .NET and Maven communities
and increase the number of users and contributors.

We continue to see small growth in users, and occasional patch submissions,

In our previous report (February 2011), we stated that we've staged the
NPanday-1.3-incubating release. However, there were a couple of issues that
we needed to address so we decided to not push through with it.

After addressing those issues, we've staged the NPanday-1.4.0-incubating
release for vote which includes the following issues:

    * Visual Studio 2010 and .Net 4.0 Framework support
    * Removal of UAC and PAB directories
    * Updated groupIds of all NPanday components including plugins to
      "org.apache.npanday"

This release is still waiting for other committers and mentors to test and
get the required binding votes.

Updated documentation was successfully deployed in
http://incubator.apache.org/npanday/docs/1.4.0-incubating/index.html

Code licenses and license headers have all been reviewed and pass RAT.

IP clearance was completed.

We have voted a new committer in the person of John Fallows and we also have
a new mentor, Matthias Wessendorf.
