Pekko

What the board has decided about this committee or office, and the reports it filed, most recent first. Generated from the published minutes.

These categorised views are best effort. They are read from the published minutes by a program, and what it can attribute to a committee depends on how each resolution happens to be worded — so a page may be incomplete, and nothing here overrides the minutes themselves. The raw minutes are the source of truth.

Please note. The board approves the minutes of a meeting at the meeting after it, and they are published then - so the most recent meeting is not usually here. ASF Members can read the draft in the board's own repository until it is.

quickly. Version 2.0.0 is making progress with most modules having milestone
releases and snapshots available for testing.

## Community Health:
Small number of active committers and some more who are occasionally
active. Pekko libraries are used fairly widely. There are a few occasional
contributors from outside the committer team but nobody is very active.

Community engagement via mailing lists and GitHub Issues and Discussions
is still pretty good.

## Project Activity:
Pekko 1.2.0 was just released. Work starting on 2.0.0.
Signs are good that Pekko remains reasonably popular in the dev community.

## Community Health:
We are seeing more cases where active community members reduce their
participation than of new community members increasing their participation.
Situation is ok but the project is at risk of participation levels dropping
to unsustainable levels.

## Community Health:
There has been a small decline in mailing list and general GitHub

## Description:

The mission of Apache Pekko is the creation and maintenance of software related

## Project Status:

Are you able to provide adequate oversight of your project? That is,
are there at least three PMC members who are engaged enough to
respond in the event of a CVE or similar crisis?
Yes. The number of active contributors is small but I believe that we
should be able to respond to security issues.
We have no CVEs but we did fix some security issues prior to our first
release in 2023.

## Are there current or upcoming risks that threaten the sustainability
of your project? This could be anything from a change in employment
of prolific contributors, to an acquisition affecting a significant
corporate contributor, to a change in the technology landscape that
makes your project less (or more) relevant.

No known issues in this area.

## What can the Foundation do to more effectively make your project more
successful in its mission of providing software for the public good?

We are well supported by the Foundation.

## Membership Data:
Apache Pekko was founded 2024-03-20 (6 months ago)
There are currently 27 committers and 20 PMC members in this project.
The Committer-to-PMC ratio is roughly 7:5.

Community changes, past quarter:
- No new PMC members. Last addition was JingZhang Chen on 2024-05-29.
- Jiafu Tang was added as committer on 2024-06-17

## Project Activity
We have released 1.1.x versions of our core modules and hope to get 1.1.x
releases for the rest of the modules done in the next few months.

## Community Health
There are a small number of new contributors who we should approach to add as
committers. The active contributor base is fairly small and it would be good to
increase its size.

Nothing major.

We do have one issue where one of our PMC members has had their access
removed. They seem to have been a genuine victim of a phishing attack.
I have received similar emails purporting to be from the ASF and
requesting me to change my password (but I am experienced with
phishing attacks and deleted the emails that I received). There are
details in the linked thread [1]. I have received no response from the
Apache Secretary or from the Infra team about whether they will
consider re-enabling the account or what process that we would need to
follow if we wanted to re-invite Li Guobin to join the PMC.

## Project Activity:
We are working through the various Pekko modules to do v1.1.0-M1 releases.
4 are complete. More modules still need v1.1.0-M1 RCs.

## Community Health:

There are currently 27 committers and 19 PMC members in this project.
The Committer-to-PMC ratio is roughly 7:5.

Community changes, past quarter:
- No new PMC members (project graduated recently). Last PPMC member
added was Arnout Engelen on 2024-02-01
- No new committers were added. Last podling committer added was
JingZhang Chen on 2024-02-05

## Project Activity:
Apache Pekko had 21 releases across 12 separate modules while incubating.
We are planning v1.1 releases for most of these modules, to be released
over the next few months.

## Community Health:
Use of the dev and users mailing lists is pretty light but has increased.
Some important discussions appear on the dev list. Most interactions happen
in GitHub Discussions, Issues and PRs.
Non-committers seem to prefer GitHub comms.

According to the commit mailing list, the number of commits has
increased 152% which is a good sign for community growth.

2023-10-18 — in the Incubator's report

Pekko is a toolkit and an ecosystem for building highly concurrent,
distributed, reactive and resilient applications for Java and Scala.

Pekko has been incubating since 2022-10-24.

### Three most important unfinished issues to address before graduating:

  1. Continue v1.0.0 releases. The main modules have v1.0.0 releases but
some modules are not yet released.
  2. Community Building.
  3. Plan future priorities.

### Are there any issues that the IPMC or ASF Board need to be aware of?

  Nothing of note.

### How has the community developed since the last report?

Community engagement is pretty low. We're still hoping to increase it now
  that main modules have releases.

### How has the project developed since the last report?

  Main modules have seen releases.

### How would you assess the podling's maturity?

Mentors have been supportive. One issue is that we need some help with
Incubator release votes. We have one open for 2 weeks and haven't yet
