Board history: PouchDB

PouchDB

What the board has decided about this committee or office, and the reports it filed, most recent first. Generated from the published minutes.

These categorised views are best effort. They are read from the published minutes by a program, and what it can attribute to a committee depends on how each resolution happens to be worded — so a page may be incomplete, and nothing here overrides the minutes themselves. The raw minutes are the source of truth.

Please note. The board approves the minutes of a meeting at the meeting after it, and they are published then - so the most recent meeting is not usually here. ASF Members can read the draft in the board's own repository until it is.

Reports

2026-06-17 — in the Incubator's report

PouchDB is an open-source JavaScript database inspired by Apache CouchDB
that is designed to run well within the browser.

PouchDB has been incubating since 2025-04-15.

### Three most important unfinished issues to address before graduating:

1. Making a release
2. Adding contributors
3. Finish infrastructure migration

### Are there any issues that the IPMC or ASF Board need to be aware of?

There is no “issue” per-se, but we want to highlight that we have
made slow progress on knocking down incubation progress in favour of
advancing the project and its infrastructure a bit more before
going after next steps.

See project development section for details.

### How has the community developed since the last report?

We continue receiving non-committer contributions, albeit at
a slightly slower pace than last quarter, as that had a boost
due to STA funding. The current pace is more in line with
pre-ASF project momentum. Candidates for committership are
emerging and we’ll start those processes when appropriate.

### How has the project developed since the last report?

- Added major features in preparation for a new feature release.

- Revamped the website onto a modern website toolkit and migrating
towards ASF-policy-friendly hosting with additional major docs
feature of versioning nearly ready for shipping.
- h/t to ASF infra for helping move this forward

- Started roadmap discussions for next few releases as we have
to deprecate some legacy parts of PouchDB while making sure all
users have a smooth migration path.

### Three most important unfinished issues to address before graduating:

  1. Making a release
  2. Adding contributors
  3. Finish infrastructure migration (currently working on the website)

### Are there any issues that the IPMC or ASF Board need to be aware of?

After delays last year and the promise to keep project momentum up, this
  has been the case.

### How has the community developed since the last report?

  - We have added a new committer and PPMC member.
  - Work continues on a first release

### How has the project developed since the last report?

We have migrated our website tech to a more modern platform that can
make use of the ASF website hosting infrastructure. Final steps are
taken at the moment of writing.

We also have received multiple external contributions from people
previously not affiliated with the project at a volume and quality
  that exceeds the usual pace.

Finally, we have formalised our stance on LLM-generated code.

2025-12-17 — in the Incubator's report

PouchDB is an open-source JavaScript database inspired by Apache CouchDB
that is designed to run well within the browser.

PouchDB has been incubating since 2025-04-15.

### Three most important unfinished issues to address before graduating:

1. Finish the initial code import (see below)
2. Making a release
3. Adding contributors

### Are there any issues that the IPMC or ASF Board need to be aware of?

After a good start in Q2, the project was stalled in Q3 and first month
of Q4 because of champion unavailability. The champion (me, jan@) had
communicated to the rest of the incubating PPMC to clear out everything
needed for the initial code import and then had to step away for
personal reasons.

Those have resolved now, the code is now in ASF territory and we are
doing the initial adjustments (file headers etc) as we speak and the
following tasks are starting to be distributed among the rest of the
team, so a single-person bottleneck should not hold the project back.

### How has the community developed since the last report?

No noticeable changes yet, but some external contribution activity
has occurred.

### How has the project developed since the last report?

After clearing all hurdles with importing a 15 year old code base,
we have the sources finally under ASF control. We are aiming to
get to be in an ASF-releasable state in a few weeks.

things resolving and moving forward.

PPMC have not yet requested a Podling Suitable Names Search

Comments: Some progress happening now. No Podling Suitable Names
Search done yet and that could cause issues if name is rejected.
- [X] (pouchdb) Jean-Baptiste Onofré
Comments: Slow start in the podling, but now it seems to move
forward. If the podling doesn't have time to report this month, maybe
   report next month ?

### How has the project developed since the last report?

TLD & mailing lists have been created, initial committers have started
filing their CLAs.

We have cleared all remaining code-import issues with Infra.

Once CLAs are all in place, we can tackle IP-clearance and coder import.
